Microwave Oven

Microwave oven, the most indispensable equipment in modern kitchens, was invented by Percy Spencer in the year 1945. It was quite by accident that this electronic genius, stumbled upon the power of magnetic energy!

Spencer was standing near a magnetron (a high-powered vacuum tube that generates microwaves) when he realized that the chocolate bar he had in his pocket had melted. This surprising event got him curious. He began to experiment by placing different things near the magnetron and observe the effect it had on them. He was able to pop some popcorn and cook an egg in this manner. This experiment with eggs, brought to attention, the fact that eggs explode if cooked with their shells!!

Spencer realized the potential of his discovery and went on to invent the microwave oven which has now become an essential part of today’s kitchen.
