Ooho – ‘eat’ water the eco-friendly way
Now don’t drink water.. eat water! Sounds amazing, right?
A London based start-up Skipping Rocks Lab has made that possible. It has developed an edible spherical ball of water named Ooho. It aims to do away with plastic water bottles.
These edible spheres which encapsulate water have a jelly-like membrane made from plant and seaweed extract. The membrane is biodegradable and requires 4-6 weeks to decompose. So, one can either consume Ooho as a whole or drink the water by piercing a hole in the membrane. The membrane, being biodegradable can be easily disposed of without causing any harm to the environment.
Ooho is perfect for hydration-on-the-go and its production cost is less than two cents. Currently Ooho is being sold at marathons and other events. Certain issues such as transportation of these spheres need to be addressed to make Ooho commercially viable. It may prove to be huge step towards protecting the environment.
Ooho is the winner of the 2014 Lexus Design Award.
