Yearning for a refreshing cup of tea? Grab a tea bag and you can have a cup of tea – quick and instant!
Tea used to be distributed in powdered form. Then a tea merchant, Thomas Sulivan, introduced a new method of shipping tea in which he used small silk muslin bags containing tea. The idea behind this was that customers would be able to open the individual tea bags and then brew their tea. However, people found it much easier to just dip the tea bags in hot water.
Laziness leads to ingenuity, eh? And thus grew the demand for tea bags!
The patent for tea bag was filed by Sullivan in the year 1903. Cloth bags were later replaced with paper bags with a thin string and decorated tags.
